Woven throughout all of this is the continued battle between heaven and hell with Charley in the middle. There’s a Mexican crime family, a haunting case of child abuse, and child abduction scandal that affects her personally. In Sixth Grave on the Edge, Charley gets involved in several cases through her day job as a private investigator. For those of you familiar with this series, you know that these books involve several smaller subplots as well as the overall plot involving the supernatural battle between good and evil. And Reyes is still making my insides melt with his maddeningly sexy alpha appeal. Cookie is still brewing coffee and stewing over her crush on Uncle Bob. Charley is recovering yet again from injuries. The story picks up right where Fifth Grave Past the Light left off. Housework? Day job? It’s so hard to focus on those things when I’m deep in the world of Charley Davidson. Thankfully we Grimlets only have to wait 5 months for the next installment! But sadly, even when I closed the book a mere two days later, it wasn’t enough. After waiting nearly an entire year for the sixth book in this series about a snarky grim reaper, her equally witty friends, and the, literally, hot as hell man whose in love with her, I was beyond thrilled to see that this story had some bulk to it.

My fellow Grimlets (fans of Darynda Jones’ amazing Charley Davidson series) will understand the joy I felt when opening the first of 352 pages in Sixth Grave on the Edge. Unless, of course, the Twelve Beasts of Hell are unleashed… Throw in a Deaf boy who sees dead people, a woman running from mobsters, and a very suspicious Reyes, and things can’t get any worse for Charley. Then, a man loses his soul in a card game. First, Charley finds a naked corpse riding shotgun in her car. But when the FBI file on Reyes’ childhood happens to land into her lap, she can’t help herself: She opens it…and then the real fun begins. Her beloved Reyes may be the only begotten son of evil, but he’s dark and sultry and deeply sexy and everything Charley could hope for. She’s a paranormal private eye and grim reaper-in-training who’s known to be a bit of a hell-raiser, especially after a few shots of caffeine.
